Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides advanced, round-the-clock care for critically ill infants and children in a safe and closely monitored environment.
A child’s serious medical condition can be extremely stressful for parents. Understanding how a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit works can help reduce anxiety during your child’s hospital stay. The PICU is designed to provide the highest level of medical attention when intensive treatment and continuous monitoring are required.
What is a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)?
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a specialized ward where seriously ill children receive advanced medical treatment and intensive nursing care. This unit is separate from general wards and is equipped for constant monitoring of vital functions such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.
The PICU also enables doctors to provide life-support treatments that are not available in regular hospital wards, including ventilators and specialized medications that require close supervision.
Who Gets Admitted to PICU?
The PICU admits critically ill patients ranging from newborns to young adults. Most patients are under 18 years of age. Newborn babies requiring intensive care immediately after birth are usually treated in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
In rare cases, older patients with specific pediatric conditions may also be admitted.
Our PICU is supported by 24×7 emergency services and a dedicated Emergency Transport System to ensure seamless and timely critical care from the moment a child requires urgent medical attention.
